NFL best stats and records: Lamar Jackson overtakes Cam Newton as Deebo Samuel makes history

Sky Sports Cricket statistician - and big Buffalo Bills fan - Benedict Bermange dives into the 2024 NFL season to pick out the best stats from each week...

The NFC North is not only a combined 17-5 this season with every team 4-2 or better, but the four teams have the best point differential in the entire league after six weeks.

On Thursday night Deebo Samuel caught a 76-yard pass from Brock Purdy to become the first wide receiver in NFL history to have as many as 20 receiving touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns. The Seahawks have now lost their last three games despite scoring exactly the same number of points (73) as they did while winning their first three games.

In London Caleb Williams became the first rookie to have at least four passing touchdowns and at least 50 rushing yards in a game since Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans against the Seahawks in Week Eight of the 2017 season. Williams' four touchdown passes against the Jaguars equalled the record for NFL games played in London:

Trevor Lawrence is now 0-6 as a starter in his career against fellow top draft picks, surpassing 1975 top pick Steve Bartkowski's 0-5 record as a starter against other number one picks.

During the Baltimore Ravens' victory over the Washington Commanders, Lamar Jackson overtook Cam Newton and moved into second place in the list of most rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history:

Derrick Henry became the first player since LaDainian Tomlinson of the Chargers in 2005 with a rushing touchdown in each of his team's first six games of a season. Henry is the first player in the Super Bowl era to achieve the feat having changed teams in the previous offseason.

The Texans' victory over the New England Patriots not only enabled them to match their best-ever start to a season at 5-1 but was also their first victory at Gillette Stadium in franchise history, having lost their previous seven games at the venue. A crumb of comfort for the Patriots was that Drake Maye became the first quarterback to throw for at least three touchdowns and lead his team in rushing in his first career start since 1950.

The 51 points scored by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the New Orleans Saints is the most by any team in an NFC South matchup while their 594 total yards set a new franchise record, beating the 588 they managed against the Detroit Lions in 2020.

The Saints scored all 27 of their points in the second quarter, marking the fourth time in NFL history that a team has scored that many points in a quarter yet failed to score in the rest of the game.

Having beaten the Seattle Seahawks 42-29 in Week Five, the Lions defeated the Dallas Cowboys 47-9 to mark just the second time in their franchise history that they have scored at least 40 points in successive games. The only previous occasion was in 1962 when they beat the Steelers 45-7 and the 49ers 45-24 in the first two weeks. The only time they have scored more points in a road game was when they beat the Packers 52-17 in the 1952 season.

The loss was the largest margin of defeat in a home game for the Cowboys since they lost 43-3 loss to the Vikings in 1988 - the year before Jerry Jones bought the team.

On Sunday night, Joe Burrow's 47-yard touchdown run was the longest by a quarterback in Bengals history. The previous record of 27 yards had belonged to Jeff Driskel against the Saints in 2018.
